Design, woodworking, carpentry, project management: as a craftsman, I specialize in custom projects that strive to live up to my clients' expectations while pushing the fine line straddling art and design. I've built my business knowing that a successful outcome arises when a connection is made with not just the materials and how they are being used, but also the individuality of the clients and the personality of each space.
El Cerrito Woodworking Inc. was formed after the El Cerrito Mill & Lumber store closed its doors in 1998. With the passing of long time owner Elmer Freethy, the Freethy family decided to sell the business leaving many EC Mill & Lumber customers without a resource for their woodworking needs and products. With almost eighty years of combined experience former EC Mill employees John Bray & Wes Richardson decided to carry on the 75 year tradition of the mill and formed El Cerrito Woodworking Incorporated. EcoCraft was created in 2006 by Eron Ersch with his wife Burr Tyler. We started EcoCraft to address a growing demand in the Bay Area for affordable cabinetry that does not compromise indoor air quality or support destructive forestry practices. We discovered that even though the required materials had become more readily available, there were few suppliers of truly eco-friendly cabinetry in the SF Bay Area. Instead, many local consumers were referred to manufacturers out of state, which necessitated long

Crafting and installing cabinets in Berkeley requires more than just technical skill—it demands a deep understanding of the city’s unique homes and regulations. From the historic bungalows in North Berkeley to the modern high-rise condos around Downtown, cabinetry projects here often come with distinct challenges. Many older homes feature uneven walls and tight kitchen layouts, requiring careful measurement and custom solutions to ensure a seamless fit. In addition, Berkeley’s coastal climate can affect wood expansion and contraction, making material selection and proper sealing critical for long-term durability.
Permitting and compliance are also key considerations for cabinetry work in Berkeley. If your project involves removing walls, rerouting plumbing, or adding electrical outlets, permits must be obtained through the City of Berkeley Permit Service Center. For homeowners in condos or HOAs, additional approvals may be required for custom built-ins or structural changes. These factors not only influence timelines but also underscore the importance of working with a knowledgeable local professional.
When it comes to costs, Berkeley homeowners can expect a range depending on their needs. Custom cabinets typically run between $500 and $1,200 per linear foot, while semi-custom kitchen installations often range from $8,000 to $20,000. Whether you’re restoring a Craftsman-style kitchen or creating sleek storage for a modern condo, a tailored approach ensures your cabinetry aligns perfectly with your home’s character and functionality.

Refacing and refinishing are common methods of updating cabinets, but they differ significantly:
Cabinet Refacing: Involves replacing the doors, drawer fronts, and sometimes the hardware, while keeping the existing cabinet boxes. This is ideal if the structure is sound but you want a completely new look.
Cabinet Refinishing: Focuses on sanding down and repainting or staining the existing surface of the cabinets. This option works for homeowners who like their current design but want a fresh finish.
Both options are more cost-effective than full replacement but depend on the condition of your cabinets and your design goals.
Yes, Cabinet Pros ensures that all contractors are fully licensed and insured to operate in their respective regions.
